Jumpstart 3D Virtual World: an online educational game for kids
December 14, 2008 – 1:28 pmJumpstart, a developer of educational games for kids has now launched an online educational game based on a 3D virtual world concept (it’s something like World of Warcraft for toddlers
).
Kids can choose their Avatar (a virtual representation) and interact with characters in the online world. Whereas a lot of other similar games focus on the aspect of social interaction, the Jumpstart 3D Virtual world puts more focus on the educational value of the game (such as reading, math, critical thinking, etc.).
Some features as described on the Jumpstart site:
- Learning adventures packed with 30+ games each.
- Missions that unlock new areas of the JumpStart 3D virtual world.
- Rewards that encourage your kids to continue learning and builds confidence.
- Report cards to stay connected to your kid’s progress.
- Tips to help your kids succeed.
The Jumpstart 3D virtual world offers a monthly or a yearly subscription, resp. $7.99 and $74.99.
Other products from Jumpstart include a number of educational PC games and toys such as this Jumpstart Tag Along Laptop:

Anything from Jumpstart is great, we use to have jump start kindergarten CD. My then 4 year old son loved it. We actually picked it up at a garage sale and got so much use out before we passed it on to friends with younger children. But I need to look into buying them again since my daughter just turned 3. I thought they were excellent games, the kids are having so much fun they don’t even realize they are learning.
